Mary Anning's Lyme Regis Tours
'She sells sea shells on the sea shore;
The shells that she sells are sea shells I'm sure.
So if she sells sea shells on the sea shore,
I'm sure that the shells are sea shore shells.'
(Terry Sullivan, 1908)
See where Mary Anning lived and where she sold her fossils. Experience her highs and lows, travelling around Lyme Regis as she would have done.
To her mother, Mary was a 'history and a mystery'. To us, Mary Anning is quite simply the greatest fossil hunter ever known, for it is on her finds that all modern theories of evolution are based.
Throughout Mary's life, she became well known for her achievements in the world of fossil hunting and the scientific study that arose from them. However, hers was not a simple life - full of joy and heartache. It is on Mary Anning's remarkable life that Tracy Chevalier based her book Remarkable Creatures.
Our Mary Anning Tours are in association with Lyme Regis Museum. Tours run all year round and are suitable for all ages.
